Frequently Asked Questions
Fraternities have traditionally been mysterious things. Cloaked in secrecy, and shrouded in rumors of midnight ceremonies, wild parties, and bizzrre hazing rituals. While that makes for great movies, the Fraternity experience of 2006 is much, much different.
Our goal is to demystify the Fraternity experience, and to that end we offer up answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Psi Phi Delta. Don't see the answer to your question? Just ask us!
What is involved in joining Psi Phi?
The first step is to make sure that we're the right Fraternity for you. There are a number of organizations in Potsdam, and each has its own personality. The best way to find the right Fraternity is to take full advantage of Rush. Go to all the meeting, parties and social events. Meet the guys, get to know as many of the members as possible, and ensure that you have things in common. Joining a Greek organization is a life-changing experience. Make sure you choose the Fraternity that best fits with your personality.
What is Rush?
Rush is the period at the beginning of the semester where all of the Greek houses -- Fraternities and Sororities -- hold open events to introduce themselves to the student body. A Rush Calendar is available in the Student Union that will show you what events are taking places on which dates. Typical events include on-campus meetings, informal sports and open parties.
During Rush you will have the opportunity to visit all of the Potsdam Fraternities, meet the members, and begin to learn what Greek life is all about. It's an excellent way to get your first taste of what a Fraternity can offer you socially and academically.
To sign up, just visit the offices in the College Union.
Does Psi Phi haze?
Absolutely not. We do not condone hazing at all, and it has been completely abolished from our membership initiation program.
